Boone County continues its commitment to expanding arts and culture with the growth of the ‘180 in Color’ public art initiative. The Boone Economic Development Corporation (Boone EDC) is thrilled to announce the receipt of an additional $66,100 in funding, bringing the total investment in public art across the county to $90,000. This funding will support transformative projects in Advance, Lebanon, Thorntown, and Whitestown.

Through these projects, Boone County will see new murals, artistic structures, and interactive public art installations designed to inspire community pride and reflect the region’s creative spirit. Highlights of the upcoming projects include:

Town of Advance Murals

Locations: Town Hall Building, 112 Main Street, and Parks Building, Roark Street

Lebanon Mural

Location: Lido Building, 124 S. Lebanon Street

Thorntown Messaging Mural(s)

Location: Odd Fellows Building, 102 West Main Street

Whitestown Artistic Shade Structure

Location: Jackson Run Park, 2816 Grassy Branch Drive

With RFQs now open, Boone EDC is inviting local and regional artists to submit their qualifications for these impactful projects. The first installations are expected to begin in Spring 2025, with all projects scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

“Public art plays a vital role in shaping the identity of our communities,” said Molly Whitehead, President of Boone EDC. “These projects will not only beautify our public spaces but also create a sense of place, celebrating the creativity and diversity that make Boone County unique.”

The ‘180 in Color’ initiative is part of Boone County’s broader effort to enhance its communities through the READI 1.0 program, which supports regional economic development and quality of life improvements. Boone EDC has partnered with the Community Foundation of Boone County (CFBC) to create a Community Arts Endowment, with approximately $60,000 still needed to bring these projects to fruition.
