Over the past five years, Boone County has had the privilege of welcoming six Japanese-owned companies to our home:

Tochigi Prefecture Ties

Located in the Kantō region of Japan lies Indiana’s Japanese sister state, Tochigi Prefecture. Known for its tourist attractions, outdoor activities and delicious strawberries, Tochigi is a popular destination located approximately 100 kilometres north of Tokyo. Boone County happens to be the only community in the state of Indiana with a company from Tochigi Prefecture— Fukai Manufacturing, with its operations as part of FTIC in Jamestown.

For an inside look on the Japanese culture experienced in Indiana, visit the Japan America Society of Indiana. With the mission to serve as a bridge of friendship between the people of Indiana and Japan, the Japan-America Society of Indiana (JASI) is a not-for-profit cultural and educational organization supported by a diverse membership of individuals, families, businesses, and academic institutions. In late 2018, Boone County Councilwoman Elise Nieshalla and Boone EDC Executive Director Molly Whitehead traveled to Japan to represent Boone County and the municipalities we serve to thank our existing Japanese companies for their significant investment in our community and share the story of why it’s #BetterinBoone. We’re taking Boone County global this week, making a return trip to Japan after last visiting in May 2016.

We’ve spent the entire day in Tokyo today calling upon our existing Lebanon businesses.

We said goodbye to Tokyo today and headed south to Nagoya to start the second half of our trip.

Our time in Japan is quickly coming to an end, as we finished up in Nagoya on Thursday morning and headed even further south to Osaka for our final meetings.
