JOB DESCRIPTION: As Vice President of Economic Development, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the economic landscape of Boone County. You will lead our efforts to attract, retain, and grow both large and small businesses. This role requires a visionary leader with a strong understanding of economic trends, a desire to build relationships, and a passion for driving positive change in Boone County.
Pay: Up to $85,000 base salary.
What you will do:
- Strategic planning: Design and execute an annual economic development plan, in coordination with the Boone EDC’s five-year strategic plan
- Business attraction: Identify and pursue opportunities to attract new businesses (small and large) and investment to Boone County
- Business retention and expansion: Foster relationships with existing businesses to support their growth and expansion plans, addressing challenges and providing resources as needed
- Workforce development: Collaborate with educational institutions, workforce agencies, and employers to ensure a skilled and competitive workforce pipeline
- Partnership building: Cultivate relationships with governmental agencies, business organizations, community groups, and other stakeholders to advance economic development goals
- Budget management: Oversee the economic development budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to achieve desired outcomes
- Team leadership: Build the economic development team, and provide leadership and direction to the team
The ideal candidate:
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in applicable field of study and/or has commensurate work experience in related field
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
- ·Understands economic development, principles, trends, and drivers, and can translate that knowledge into actionable strategies
- Is a leader
- Thinks creatively, strategically, and independently
- Is flexible
- Maintains confidentiality
- ·Has the ability to work some evenings, including some out-of-the-area and overnight travel
