In a move aimed at building a more inclusive and accessible community, the Zionsville Town Council has approved the establishment of the Zionsville Advisory Committee on Disability (ZACD). The new committee, introduced through Ordinance 2024-44 at the December 16, 2024, town council meeting, will focus on enhancing opportunities and accessibility for residents of all abilities.
“We know that about 10% of our population is living with a disability of some kind,” said Mayor John Stehr. “The ZACD will help give them more of a voice to ensure that Zionsville continues to be welcoming to all and truly works for everyone who chooses to live, or spend time, here.”
A Commitment to Accessibility and Community Collaboration
The ZACD will serve as an advisory body to Mayor Stehr and the Zionsville Town Council, ensuring that accessibility and inclusivity remain at the forefront of the town’s policies and services. The committee’s initial priorities include reviewing the town’s ADA Transition Plan and developing strategies for an annual Disability Awareness Month campaign. These initiatives will play a crucial role in making Zionsville a leader in inclusivity within Boone County and beyond. “The ZACD will provide valuable input and advice to Mayor Stehr and the Town Council and further enhance Zionsville’s image as a friendly and welcoming community for individuals of all abilities,” said Tom Easterday, one of the appointed members of the committee.

Building a More Inclusive Future in Boone County

By proactively addressing accessibility and inclusion, Zionsville is setting a precedent for other communities to follow. As Boone EDC continues to support initiatives that enhance quality of life and economic growth, partnerships with groups like the ZACD will be instrumental in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future for all residents.
